My dearest creator, welcome back to the atelier. There is a special kind of magic that settles over our hooks when the air turns crisp and the calendar turns toward December, isn't there? Today, we are channeling that festive nostalgia into "Rudy"—a little fawn who carries the spirit of a childhood Christmas in every stitch, waiting to bring joy to a stocking or a market stall near you.
🎨 About This Creation & Our Angle
Rudy was born from a desire to capture the "Gaze of Innocence"—that sweet, wide-eyed wonder we see in children during the holidays. Designed with the "Market Stall Best-Seller" in mind, he is crafted to be relatively quick to work up without sacrificing that premium, heirloom quality.
His shape relies on the "Embrace of Softness," utilizing a pear-shaped body and sturdy, rounded limbs that make him impossible not to squeeze. Whether you are crafting for your own little ones or filling your inventory for the holiday rush, Rudy is designed to be a heart-stealer.

📖 The Complete "Rudy" Reindeer Pattern
Part 1: The Head
Using Soft Toffee yarn.
- Rnd 1: Start 6 sc in a magic ring. (6 sts)
- Rnd 2: Inc in every st. (12 sts)
- Rnd 3: (Sc 1, inc) x 6. (18 sts)
- Rnd 4: (Sc 2, inc) x 6. (24 sts)
- Rnd 5: (Sc 3, inc) x 6. (30 sts)
- Rnd 6: (Sc 4, inc) x 6. (36 sts)
- Rnd 7: (Sc 5, inc) x 6. (42 sts)
- Rnd 8: (Sc 6, inc) x 6. (48 sts)

- Rnd 19: (Sc 6, dec) x 6. (42 sts)
- Rnd 20: (Sc 5, dec) x 6. (36 sts)
Artisan's Note: At this stage, pause to insert the safety eyes. I recommend placing them between Rounds 16 and 17, approximately 9 stitches apart. This low placement is key to the "Gaze of Innocence" baby schema.

- Rnd 22: (Sc 3, dec) x 6. (24 sts)
- Rnd 23: (Sc 2, dec) x 6. (18 sts)
- Rnd 24: (Sc 1, dec) x 6. (12 sts)
- Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Stuff the head firmly, ensuring the cheeks are round.
Part 2: The Muzzle
Using Snow Cream yarn.
- Rnd 1: Start 6 sc in a magic ring. (6 sts)
- Rnd 2: Inc in every st. (12 sts)
- Rnd 3: (Sc 1, inc) x 6. (18 sts)

Part 3: The Nose
Using Holly Berry yarn.
- Rnd 1: Start 6 sc in a magic ring. (6 sts)
- Rnd 2: (Sc 1, inc) x 3. (9 sts)
- Fasten off. This will be sewn onto the Muzzle later.
Part 4: The Body
Using Soft Toffee yarn. We create a pear shape for that "huggable" quality.
- Rnd 1: Start 6 sc in a magic ring. (6 sts)
- Rnd 2: Inc in every st. (12 sts)
- Rnd 3: (Sc 1, inc) x 6. (18 sts)

- Rnd 5: (Sc 3, inc) x 6. (30 sts)
- Rnd 6: (Sc 4, inc) x 6. (36 sts)
- Rnd 7-11: Sc in each st around. (36 sts)
- Rnd 12: (Sc 4, dec) x 6. (30 sts)
- Rnd 13-14: Sc in each st around. (30 sts)

- Rnd 16-17: Sc in each st around. (24 sts)
- Rnd 18: (Sc 2, dec) x 6. (18 sts)
- Rnd 19: Sc in each st around. (18 sts)
- Fasten off. Stuff firmly.
Part 5: The Limbs (Make 4)
Using Soft Toffee yarn. These are short and stubby to keep him cute!
- Rnd 1: Start 6 sc in a magic ring. (6 sts)
- Rnd 2: Inc in every st. (12 sts)
- Rnd 3: BLO sc in each st around. (12 sts) — Creates a flat "hoof" bottom.
- Rnd 4-7: Sc in each st around. (12 sts)
- Fasten off, leaving tails for sewing. Stuff lightly.
Part 6: The Antlers (Make 2)
Using Cocoa Bean yarn.
- Small Tine:
- Rnd 1: 5 sc in magic ring. (5 sts)
- Rnd 2-3: Sc around. (5 sts)
- Fasten off.
- Main Beam:
- Rnd 1: 6 sc in magic ring. (6 sts)
- Rnd 2-4: Sc around. (6 sts)
- Rnd 5: Crochet across 3 sts of the Small Tine and the Main Beam together to join, then sc remaining sts. (Varied count)
- Rnd 6-8: Sc around the joined piece to form the base.
- Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Lightly stuff the base if possible, or use pipe cleaners for stability.
🧵 Assembly & Final Touches
Now, we bring Rudy to life. Take your time here; the placement of the features defines the personality.
- The Face: Sew the white Muzzle centered between the eyes, slightly lower than the eye line. Sew the red Nose to the upper center of the Muzzle.
- The Ears & Antlers: Flatten the ears and sew them at Round 10 of the head. Position the Antlers just inside the ears, ensuring they stand upright.
- The Body: Sew the Head to the Body securely. Add extra stuffing at the neck to prevent wobbling.
- The Legs: Pin the four legs to the bottom of the body. Adjust them until Rudy stands on his own, then sew firmly in place.
- Details: Use a strand of black embroidery thread to stitch small eyebrows above the eyes for expression.

💡 Tips & Frequently Asked Questions
Q: My reindeer's head is wobbling. How do I fix it?
A: This is common with the "baby schema" proportions! Ensure you stuff the neck very firmly right before closing. You can also insert a "neck roll" of felt or a spare crochet tube inside the neck for support.
Q: Can I use chenille or velvet yarn?
A: Absolutely! Using bulky velvet yarn will create a "Giant Rudy" (approx. 30cm). Just remember to upsize your hook to 4.5mm or 5.0mm.
💌 A Final Word
Thank you for spending time in the atelier with me today. I hope your little Rudy brings a spark of joy to your home or finds a loving new owner at your next market. Every stitch is a memory woven in time—treasure them.
