Welcome back to the atelier, my fellow creator. Today, we turn our hooks toward the gentle earth and the promise of new beginnings.
Meet Daisy, a quiet soul who believes that patience is the most important tool in any garden—and indeed, in any craft. With her trusty trowel and sun hat, she is a tribute to the slow, meditative joy of watching things grow.
🎨 About This Creation & Our Angle
In designing Daisy, I wanted to capture the very essence of "cottagecore"—that nostalgic, romanticized return to nature. She is not just a toy; she is a piece of art intended to sit amongst your potted herbs or on a sun-drenched windowsill.
For those of you looking to stock your spring market stalls, this project is a true gem. The "gardening companion" theme is incredibly popular during the planting season, making Daisy a high-value gift for plant lovers who struggle to keep real greenery alive!

🧶 Materials & Tools Needed
To weave this creation, you will need to gather a few simple treasures. I recommend a matte cotton yarn to give her that natural, organic finish.

- Buttercup or Mustard Yellow (for the skirt)
- Terracotta / Brown (for the shoes and soil)
- Hook: 2.5mm (or size suitable to keep stitches tight)

📖 The Complete Daisy Pattern
Part 1: The Head (Oatmeal Yarn)
We begin with the head, focusing on creating a round, puppy-like shape. We want plenty of room for those wide-set eyes.
- Rnd 1: 6 sc in Magic Ring (6)
- Rnd 2: Inc in every st (12)
- Rnd 3: (1 sc, inc) x 6 (18)
- Rnd 4: (2 sc, inc) x 6 (24)
- Rnd 5: (3 sc, inc) x 6 (30)
- Rnd 6: (4 sc, inc) x 6 (36)
- Rnd 7: (5 sc, inc) x 6 (42)
- Rnd 8: (6 sc, inc) x 6 (48)
- Rnd 9-18: Sc in each st around (48) [10 rounds for height]
Artisan's Note: Before we start decreasing, pause to insert the safety eyes between Rnd 13 and 14. Space them about 9 stitches apart. This wide spacing creates that "Gaze of Innocence" we discussed in the blueprint.
- Rnd 19: (6 sc, dec) x 6 (42)
- Rnd 20: (5 sc, dec) x 6 (36)
- Rnd 21: (4 sc, dec) x 6 (30)
- Rnd 22: (3 sc, dec) x 6 (24)
- Rnd 23: (2 sc, dec) x 6 (18)
- Finish: Sl st, fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Stuff firmly.
Part 2: The Legs & Body (Terracotta, Yellow, and Green)
We will crochet the legs first and join them to create the body. This seamless join makes the amigurumi sturdy and perfect for play.
- Rnd 1 (Terracotta): 6 sc in Magic Ring (6)
- Rnd 2: Inc in every st (12)
- Rnd 3: (1 sc, inc) x 6 (18)
- Rnd 4-6: Sc in each st around (18)
- Rnd 7 (Change to Oatmeal - Skin): BLO, sc in each st around (18)
- Rnd 8-12: Sc in each st around (18). Fasten off first leg. Make second leg but DO NOT fasten off.
Joining the Legs: From the second leg, ch 3, join to the first leg with a sc.
- Rnd 13 (Change to Yellow - Skirt Base): Sc 18 (leg 1), sc 3 (chain), sc 18 (leg 2), sc 3 (chain) (42)
- Rnd 14-18: Sc in each st around (42)
- Rnd 19 (Change to Green - Shirt): BLO sc in each st around (42). *This creates the ridge where we will attach the skirt later.*
- Rnd 20-22: Sc in each st around (42)
- Rnd 23: (5 sc, dec) x 6 (36)
- Rnd 24: Sc in each st around (36)
- Rnd 25: (4 sc, dec) x 6 (30)
- Rnd 26: Sc in each st around (30)
- Rnd 27: (3 sc, dec) x 6 (24)
- Rnd 28: (2 sc, dec) x 6 (18)
- Finish: Sl st, fasten off. Stuff the body firmly, especially the neck area.
Part 3: The Garden Skirt (Yellow)
Attach your yellow yarn to the front loops left unworked in Rnd 19 of the body. Hold the body upside down (feet pointing up) so the right side of the skirt faces out.
- Row 1: Ch 2, 2 dc in each st around, sl st to join.
- Row 2: Ch 2, (1 dc, dc inc) around, sl st to join.
- Row 3-5: Ch 2, dc in each st around, sl st to join.
- Finish: Fasten off and weave in ends.
Artisan's Note: Use your green embroidery thread to stitch small "V" shapes scattered across the yellow skirt. These represent little sprouting leaves or herbs! Simplicity is key here.
Part 4: The Arms (Make 2)
- Rnd 1 (Oatmeal): 6 sc in Magic Ring (6)
- Rnd 2: (1 sc, inc) x 3 (9)
- Rnd 3-8: Sc in each st around (9)
- Rnd 9 (Change to Green): Sc in each st around (9)
- Rnd 10-12: Sc in each st around (9)
- Finish: Stuff lightly at the bottom only. Pinch flat and sc across the top to close.
Part 5: The Ears (Make 2 - Oatmeal)
These should be floppy and soft. We do not stuff the ears.
- Rnd 1: 6 sc in Magic Ring (6)
- Rnd 2: Inc in every st (12)
- Rnd 3: (1 sc, inc) x 6 (18)
- Rnd 4-8: Sc in each st around (18)
- Rnd 9: (1 sc, dec) x 6 (12)
- Rnd 10: Sc in each st around (12)
- Finish: Pinch flat and sc across to close.
Part 6: The Sun Hat (Textured Straw Look)
Use a beige or straw-colored yarn if you have it, otherwise, the Oatmeal works well.
- Rnd 1: 6 sc in Magic Ring (6)
- Rnd 2: Inc in every st (12)
- Rnd 3: (1 sc, inc) x 6 (18)
- Rnd 4: (2 sc, inc) x 6 (24)
- Rnd 5: (3 sc, inc) x 6 (30)
- Rnd 6-8: Sc in each st around (30)
- Rnd 9 (Brim): FLO, (1 sc, inc) around (45)
- Rnd 10: (2 sc, inc) around (60)
- Rnd 11: Sc in each st around (60). Fasten off.
🧵 Assembly & Final Touches
Now comes the moment where the soul enters the creation. Take your time with these steps.
- Sew the Head: Attach the head to the body. Ensure the nose is facing forward, aligned with the center of the dress.
- Attach the Ears: Sew the ears to the head at Rnd 7-8. They should be placed slightly to the side and flop downwards for a sweet, relaxed look.
- The Muzzle: Embroider a small, triangular nose using dark brown thread between the eyes. You can add a single vertical line downwards for the mouth.
- Attach Arms: Sew the arms to the sides of the body, just below the neck seam (on the green shirt section).
- Dress Her: Place the sun hat on her head. You can tack it down with a stitch or two if you prefer it to be permanent.

💡 Tips & Frequently Asked Questions
Q: My amigurumi head is wobbling. How do I fix it?
A: This is common! When stuffing the neck, be very generous. You can also roll up a small piece of felt into a tube and insert it into the neck like a spinal column before sewing the head on for extra support.
Q: Can I use acrylic yarn instead of cotton?
A: Absolutely. However, cotton provides better stitch definition and that matte, professional finish we love for "heirloom" style toys. Acrylic will be softer and fuzzier, which is also charming.
💌 A Final Word
I hope Daisy brings a little bit of sunshine into your home, regardless of the weather outside. Remember, like a garden, creativity takes patience, but the bloom is always worth the wait. Happy crocheting!
