Luna the Lullaby Lamb – Free Amigurumi Sheep Pattern & Heirloom Nursery Decor

Dearest creator, welcome back to the atelier. Today, we embark on a journey not just of stitching, but of memory-making. I am delighted to introduce you to Luna, a guardian of sweet dreams and a testament to the softness of love.

There is something profoundly magical about crafting for a nursery. We are not simply making a toy; we are shaping a childhood companion that will whisper comfort during the quietest hours of the night.

🎨 The Art of Heirloom Nursery Decor

In a world of mass-produced plastics, a handmade heirloom speaks a different language. Luna is designed with the philosophy of "The Embrace of Softness," using the textured bobble stitch to mimic the tactility of real wool. She is meant to be held, loved, and eventually passed down.

We have chosen a palette of Cloud White and Powder Blue to evoke a sense of tranquility. By adding small, thoughtful details like faux pearl beads and a celestial pochette, we elevate a simple amigurumi into a piece of boutique-quality decor.

"Every stitch is a lullaby, and every finished row is a promise of comfort. When we create for the little ones, we weave our hopes into the very fiber of the doll." — Patricia Poltera

📖 The Complete Luna Pattern

Part 1: The Legs (Make 2)

We begin with the legs to ensure a sturdy foundation. Luna is designed to stand, so stuff these firmly as you go. Use Cloud White.

  • Rnd 1: 6 sc in Magic Ring (6 sts)
  • Rnd 2: inc in each st around (12 sts)
  • Rnd 3: (sc, inc) x 6 (18 sts)
  • Rnd 4-5: sc in each st around (18 sts)
  • Rnd 6: (sc, dec) x 6 (12 sts)
  • Rnd 7-10: sc in each st around (12 sts)

Fasten off the first leg. Do not fasten off the second leg; we will continue directly into the body.

Part 2: The Body (Texture & Form)

Connect the second leg to the first with a ch 3. This chain counts as stitches in the round.

  • Rnd 11: sc 12 around leg 1, sc 3 along one side of ch, sc 12 around leg 2, sc 3 along other side of ch (30 sts)
  • Rnd 12: (sc 4, inc) x 6 (36 sts)
  • Rnd 13: (sc 5, inc) x 6 (42 sts)

Artisan's Note: We are about to begin the Bobble Stitch rounds. Ensure you push the bobble "out" towards the right side of the work with your finger as you complete the stitch. This creates that lovely, thick wool texture.

  • Rnd 14: (sc, BO) repeat around (42 sts)
  • Rnd 15: sc in each st around (42 sts)
  • Rnd 16: (sc, BO) repeat around (42 sts)
  • Rnd 17: sc in each st around (42 sts)
  • Rnd 18: (sc 5, dec) x 6 (36 sts)
  • Rnd 19: Switch to Powder Blue (The Bodice). BLO sc in each st around (36 sts)
  • Rnd 20-23: sc in each st around (36 sts)
  • Rnd 24: (sc 4, dec) x 6 (30 sts)
  • Rnd 25: (sc 3, dec) x 6 (24 sts)

Stuff the body firmly, shaping it to be round and plump. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Part 3: The Head

Using Cloud White. We aim for a large, baby-like head shape.

  • Rnd 1: 6 sc in Magic Ring (6 sts)
  • Rnd 2: inc in each st around (12 sts)
  • Rnd 3: (sc, inc) x 6 (18 sts)
  • Rnd 4: (sc 2, inc) x 6 (24 sts)
  • Rnd 5: (sc 3, inc) x 6 (30 sts)
  • Rnd 6: (sc 4, inc) x 6 (36 sts)
  • Rnd 7: (sc 5, inc) x 6 (42 sts)
  • Rnd 8: (sc 6, inc) x 6 (48 sts)
  • Rnd 9-16: sc in each st around (48 sts)

Insert safety eyes between Rnds 13 and 14, roughly 9 stitches apart. This low placement is key to the "Gaze of Innocence."

  • Rnd 17: (sc 6, dec) x 6 (42 sts)
  • Rnd 18: (sc 5, dec) x 6 (36 sts)
  • Rnd 19: (sc 4, dec) x 6 (30 sts)
  • Rnd 20: (sc 3, dec) x 6 (24 sts)

Stuff head very firmly. Fasten off.

Part 4: Arms (Make 2) & Ears (Make 2)

Arms (Start in White):

  • Rnd 1: 6 sc in Magic Ring (6 sts)
  • Rnd 2-4: sc in each st around (6 sts)
  • Rnd 5: Switch to Powder Blue. sc in each st around (6 sts)
  • Rnd 6-9: sc in each st around (6 sts)

Flatten the opening and sc across to close. Do not stuff.

Ears (In White):

  • Rnd 1: 6 sc in Magic Ring (6 sts)
  • Rnd 2: (sc, inc) x 3 (9 sts)
  • Rnd 3-5: sc in each st around (9 sts)
  • Rnd 6: (sc, dec) x 3 (6 sts)

Flatten and fold slightly before sewing to give them a "droopy" lamb look.

Part 5: The Crescent Moon Bag

Using Buttercream Yellow.

  • Row 1: Ch 12. Starting in 2nd ch from hook, sc 1, hdc 1, dc 2, tr 3, dc 2, hdc 1, sc 1.

Fasten off. Create a long chain of approx 30 ch to serve as the strap and sew it to the tips of the crescent.

🧵 Assembly & Final Touches

Now comes the moment where Luna truly wakes up. Take your time with these steps.

  1. Sew the Head: Attach the head to the body. Ensure the face is centered over the legs.
  2. Attach Arms: Sew the arms to the top round of the blue bodice, angled slightly forward as if she is asking for a hug.
  3. The Face: Embroider a small "Y" shape for the nose using dark thread, placed directly between the eyes. Add small pink blush under the eyes if desired.
  4. Ears: Sew ears to the sides of the head, roughly at eye level (Rnd 13-14).
  5. Heirloom Details: Carefully sew small pearls scattered across the blue bodice. Drape the Moon Bag over her shoulder.

💡 Tips & Frequently Asked Questions

Q: My bobble stitches are popping inside the body?

A: This is common! As you work the bobble, simply use your finger to push it firmly towards the "right" side (the outside) before tightening your next single crochet.

Q: Can I use acrylic yarn instead of cotton?

A: You certainly can, though cotton provides that crisp, high-definition look that defines professional amigurumi. Acrylic will result in a fuzzier, softer sheep.

💌 A Final Word

It has been a joy to design Luna with you. May she bring warmth to a nursery and gentle dreams to a little one. Until our hooks meet again, create with love.
