Welcome back to the atelier, my dear friend. Today, we invite a hush over the workspace as we prepare to welcome a very special guest.
Meet Elara, the Morning Dew Sprite. She is not merely a doll; she is a captured moment of serenity, representing that quiet, magical breath of time just before the forest wakes up.
🎨 About This Creation & The Art of Mindful Crochet
In our busy world, we often forget to pause. Elara is designed to be a physical reminder of mindfulness. Her closed eyes and gentle smile invite you to take a deep breath every time you glance at her.
We have designed her with the "sleeping seedling" aesthetic in mind. This project is a wonderful way to use those scraps of green yarn you have saved, turning them into a cohesive, nature-inspired piece of nursery decor or a guardian for your desk plants.

📖 The Complete Elara Pattern
Part 1: The Spirit Head
Using Soft Sage Green yarn.
- Rnd 1: Start 6 sc in a MR. (6 sts)
- Rnd 2: Inc in every st around. (12 sts)
- Rnd 3: (Sc 1, inc) repeat 6 times. (18 sts)
- Rnd 4: (Sc 2, inc) repeat 6 times. (24 sts)
- Rnd 5: (Sc 3, inc) repeat 6 times. (30 sts)
- Rnd 6: (Sc 4, inc) repeat 6 times. (36 sts)
- Rnd 7: (Sc 5, inc) repeat 6 times. (42 sts)
- Rnd 8-16: Sc in each st around. (42 sts)
Artisan's Note: Before we begin closing the head, pause here. It is much easier to embroider the facial features now while the head is open. Place the eyes low, between rounds 11 and 12, spacing them about 6 stitches apart for that innocent "baby" look.
- Rnd 17: (Sc 5, dec) repeat 6 times. (36 sts)
- Rnd 18: (Sc 4, dec) repeat 6 times. (30 sts)
- Rnd 19: (Sc 3, dec) repeat 6 times. (24 sts)
- Rnd 20: (Sc 2, dec) repeat 6 times. (18 sts)
- Stuff the head firmly with fiberfill, ensuring it is perfectly round.
- Rnd 21: (Sc 1, dec) repeat 6 times. (12 sts)
- Rnd 22: Dec around. (6 sts)
- Fasten off and weave in the end.
Part 2: The Seedling Body
Using Soft Sage Green yarn. We work from the bottom up to create a stable base.
- Rnd 1: Start 6 sc in a MR. (6 sts)
- Rnd 2: Inc in every st around. (12 sts)
- Rnd 3: (Sc 1, inc) repeat 6 times. (18 sts)
- Rnd 4: (Sc 2, inc) repeat 6 times. (24 sts)
- Rnd 5: (Sc 3, inc) repeat 6 times. (30 sts)
- Rnd 6: (Sc 4, inc) repeat 6 times. (36 sts)
- Rnd 7: Work this round in BLO. Sc in each st around. (36 sts)
- Rnd 8-10: Sc in each st around. (36 sts)
- Rnd 11: (Sc 4, dec) repeat 6 times. (30 sts)
- Rnd 12-13: Sc in each st around. (30 sts)
- Rnd 14: (Sc 3, dec) repeat 6 times. (24 sts)
- Rnd 15-16: Sc in each st around. (24 sts)
- Rnd 17: (Sc 2, dec) repeat 6 times. (18 sts)
- Stuff the body firmly, adding extra weight (like poly-pellets in a pouch) at the bottom if you want her to stand very securely.
- Rnd 18: Sc in each st around. (18 sts)
- Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing the head to the body.
Part 3: The Leaf Crown (Headpiece)
Using Deep Moss Green yarn.
- Rnd 1: Chain 25. Sl st to first ch to form a ring (ensure it fits over the head).
- Rnd 2: *Ch 6. Start in 2nd ch from hook: sl st, sc, hdc, dc, dc. Skip 2 sts on the main ring, sl st into next st.* Repeat around to create 8 leaf points.
- Rnd 3 (Border): Change to Buttercup Yellow. Sc around the edge of each leaf. At the very tip of each leaf, work a picot (ch 2, sl st back) to make it pointy. Sl st in the valleys between leaves.
- Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.
Artisan's Note: When edging with the yellow yarn, keep your tension relaxed. If it's too tight, the leaves will curl inwards too aggressively. We want a gentle, blooming curve.
Part 4: The Foliage Skirt
Using Deep Moss Green yarn. Join yarn to the front loops left unworked in Rnd 7 of the Body.
- Row 1: Insert hook into the first FLO stitch. Pull up a loop. *Ch 5, starting in 2nd ch from hook: sl st, sc, hdc, dc. Skip 1 FLO st on body, sl st into next.* Repeat around.
- Row 2: Like the crown, you can edge these leaves with a lighter green or yellow for definition, or leave them simple for a more rustic look.
Part 5: Tiny Roots (Legs)
Make 2. Using Soft Sage Green.
- Rnd 1: Start 5 sc in a MR. (5 sts)
- Rnd 2: Inc in every st around. (10 sts)
- Rnd 3-5: Sc in each st around. (10 sts)
- Fasten off. Lightly stuff. These will be sewn to the bottom of the body.
🧵 Assembly & Final Touches
Now comes the moment where the spirit finds her form. Patience is your best tool here.
- The Union: Sew the head securely to the neck of the body. Ensure the face is aligned with the front of the body.
- The Crown: Place the Leaf Crown onto the head like a bonnet. It should frame the face. Sew it in place.
- The Roots: Sew the two small legs to the bottom of the body, slightly towards the front so they peek out from under the skirt when she sits.
- The Dew: Thread your needle with White or Silver embroidery floss. Make small French Knots scattered randomly on the Deep Moss Green leaves and the top of her head. This is the "morning dew."
- The Blush: Apply a tiny amount of real blush or use pink yarn to embroider small cheeks under her eyes.

💡 Tips & Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I use acrylic yarn instead of cotton?
A: You certainly can! However, for this specific project, cotton provides a crisp stitch definition that makes the leaves look much more structured and realistic. Acrylic may result in a "fuzzier" plant.
Q: How do I make her stand up on her own?
A: The teardrop body shape helps, but the key is a flat bottom. When stuffing the body, ensure the base is packed flat. You can also insert a circle of cardboard or plastic canvas inside the bottom of the body before stuffing.
💌 A Final Word
Elara is now complete. I hope that as you stitched her, you found a moment of quiet for yourself as well. May she bring a sense of peace and new beginnings to whichever corner of your home she inhabits.
