4. The Head and Face
This is the most critical component. Precision and patience are paramount.
With Chambray Blue
R1: MC with 6 sc [6]
R2: (inc) x 6 [12]
R3: (1 sc, inc) x 6 [18]
R4: (2 sc, inc) x 6 [24]

R22: (9 sc, dec) x 6 [60]
R23-25: sc around (3 rounds) [60]
R26: (8 sc, dec) x 6 [54]
At this point, you MUST begin the trunk.
Trunk and Eye Placement:
Determine where the eyes will sit (between R19 and R20, approx. 12 stitches apart).
For the trunk: With Chambray Blue
R1: MC with 5 sc [5]
R2: (inc) x 5 [10]
R3-5: sc around (3 rounds) [10]
R6: (1 sc, inc) x 5 [15]
R7-9: sc around (3 rounds) [15]
R10: (2 sc, inc) x 5 [20]
R11-13: sc around (3 rounds) [20]
R14: (3 sc, inc) x 5 [25]
R15-18: sc around (4 rounds) [25]
R19: dec x 12, 1 sc in last st [13]
Close, leaving a tail for sewing. This must be attached to the head opening you have left.
Return to the Head:
R27: sc around (where the trunk is NOT attached) [54 - trunk sts]
R28-30: sc around (continue shaping the head around the trunk base)
Fasten off and attach the trunk to the remaining sts of R26 of the main head. It should have a curved, upwards curl. The trunk is not a separate appendage.
Surgical Face Sculpting:
To achieve the specific, expressive eyes from the image, we will needle sculpt.
Step 1: The Eyebrows: With black embroidery thread, make one long, slightly angled stitch for each eyebrow, just above the safety eye.
Step 2: The Inner Eye Light: This step is essential. Take a piece of Soft White embroidery thread and make 2-3 very small, tight stitches in the inner corner of each eye.
Step 3: Needles Sculpting the Eye Sockets (Crucial): Insert a tapestry needle with main blue yarn at the base of the neck, and bring it up just below the inner corner of the right eye. Push it over to the inner corner of the left eye, and bring it back down to the neck. Pull both ends gently to draw the eyes in slightly, creating realistic sockets. Tie off securely at the neck. Repeat on the outer corner of each eye. This depth cannot be achieved with increases/decreases alone.
5. Multi-Layer Ears
With Chambray Blue, using a 1.0mm hook for precise details.
R1: MC with 6 sc [6]
R2: (inc) x 6 [12]
R3: (1 sc, inc) x 6 [18]
R4: (2 sc, inc) x 6 [24]
R5: (3 sc, inc) x 6 [30]
R6: (4 sc, inc) x 6 [36]
R7: (5 sc, inc) x 6 [42]
R8: (6 sc, inc) x 6 [48]
R9: (7 sc, inc) x 6 [54]
R10: (8 sc, inc) x 6 [60]
R11: (9 sc, inc) x 6 [66]
Finish Chambray layer. (Do not close this ear; it will have a specific front and back.)
Inner Ear Layer:
With Aged Terracotta (Contrast Color 1)
R1: MC with 6 sc [6]
R2: (inc) x 6 [12]
R3: (1 sc, inc) x 6 [18]
R4: (2 sc, inc) x 6 [24]
R5: (3 sc, inc) x 6 [30]
R6: (4 sc, inc) x 6 [36]
R7: (5 sc, inc) x 6 [42]
R8: (6 sc, inc) x 6 [48]
R9: (7 sc, inc) x 6 [54]
R10: (8 sc, inc) x 6 [60]
Finish Aged Terracotta layer.
Assembly: Place the Aged Terracotta circle (Inner Ear) into the Chambray circle (Outer Ear). The Chambray circle should overlap the terracotta edge. Secure with small stitches around the circumference of the inner ear. Fold the base of the entire ear slightly to create that specific, dimensional cupped shape, and sew to the side of the head, using the image for placement. Repeat for the second ear.
6. Decorative Elements: The Wreath, Ruffle, and Lace
Neck Ruffle:
With Vintage Cream (Contrast Color 2)
R1: ch 31
R2: (Start in 2nd ch from hook) 30 sc [30]
R3: (In FLO) ch 2, (1 hdc, inc hdc in next st) repeat around.
Fasten off. Join to neck, ensuring the ruffled edge faces upward.
Floral Wreath:
Make multiple flowers and leaves using a 1.0mm hook.
Micro Flower (Burnt Orange, Moss Green): MC with (ch 2, 2 dc, ch 2, sl st) into MC x 5 [5 petals]. Close and secure. Make 4-5 total in Burnt Orange, 2-3 in Moss Green (for leaves).
Micro Flower (Soft White): (ch 10, sl st in 2nd ch, (ch 3, sl st in next ch) x 8). Fold the entire chain into a rosette and secure. Make 2-3 total.
Lace Details (on Foot Pads):
With Vintage Cream (Contrast Color 2)
Using a very small crochet hook, join to the front loop of R8 of the Leg Construction.
R1: (In FLO) ch 3, skip 2, sl st, repeat around foot pad.
R2: (ch 2, 3 dc in next ch-3 loop, ch 2, sl st in next ch-3 loop). Repeat around.
Final Pro Assembly Guide
1. Joining the Parts: The head must be securely fastened to the body. Before doing so, insert a single plastic or wooden doll skeleton wire (approx. 4 inches) into the neck and upper body for reinforce, ensuring the head stays upright.
2. Positioning: Before sewing, use pins to position the arms, legs, and ears, referencing the image. The arms are positioned low on the chest, and the legs are positioned slightly outwards, allowing the elephant to sit comfortably. The ears are large and are positioned on the side of the head, at eye-level.
3. Symmetry: This is perhaps the most important luxury detail. Check the symmetry of the eyes, ears, and limbs multiple times before sewing permanently. Small deviations will ruin the high-fashion aesthetic.
4. Secure the Wreath: Use a high-quality fabric glue or small, invisible stitches to secure the floral wreath to the crown of the head. Position the flowers so they are balanced, just as in the photo.
